Mozart and More
Sun., Feb. 12, 2012 – 3:00pm
SOU Music Recital Hall, S. Mountain Ave., Ashland
Free pre-concert lecture 2:00 pm
Mozart & More is this year’s homage to the music of Mozart, and to one of his most important musical influences, Georg Friederich Handel.
Highlighted works will include two Handel pieces written about the crowning of Solomon: Coronation Anthem #1 from Zadock The Priest, which has been performed at the coronation of every English monarch since its composition, and portions of From the censer curling rise, from the oratorio Solomon.
Another Mozart also will be featured: a lovely piece, Beata es virgo Maria by Mozart’s greatest influence – his father Leopold.
From Wolfgang himself comes the seldom-heard Inter natos mulierum, and excerpts from the Great Mass in C minor, one of his most inspired compositions.
Intermission includes champagne, Viennese pastry and fun!
